Welcome to WyldBlu Designs! My name is Rachel, the artist and maker behind these handcrafted leather goods. Based in my home studio in Southern California, each piece is thoughtfully crafted by me. With nearly two decades of sewing experience, I find joy in creating functional art that tells a story.

The idea of starting a creative business took shape on an 8 day backpacking trip through the High Sierra Trail. Surrounded by the rugged, wild beauty, I was inspired to blend my love for the outdoors with beautiful, natural materials that serve an everyday purpose. Leather has always interested me and I decided to dive in to this new craft. My sewing experience proved invaluable as I ventured into making handcrafted leather purses, and soon realized how much I enjoyed making these beautiful, functional pieces. So here I am.

I am a self taught seamstress and artist, although I grew up watching my grandmother masterfully craft clothing for us often and was always inspired by her extreme talent. Coming from a family of many artists, craftsman, and musicians, it felt very natural for me to try different forms of art. My first love was singing and songwriting, which started very young and then playing instruments, with my main instrument being the guitar. This led me on a path to singing and playing in a band when I was younger in the San Diego area.

As an enrolled member of Mohawks of Kahnawake, my connection to my culture plays a significant role in my work. Participating as a vendor at the 101st Santa Fe Indian Market was a privilege that further fueled my passion and dedication to storytelling through craftsmanship. With each piece I make, I aim to tell a story-of the mountains, the rivers, the flowers, the animals, and of our experiences in these wild places. The places that connect us to who we are. My goal is to create functional art that we can use; accessories that tell a story.
